Because of ever changing environmental regulations relating to water treatment and the treatment and disposal of domestic and industrial waste, a strong familiarity with the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality’s (IDEQ) regulations and the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) is critical for the success of water and wastewater facilities planning effort.

Pharmer Engineering staff has extensive experience working with IDEQ and EPA on both water and wastewater projects, and are well acquainted with the staff at IDEQ’s regional offices and at the Boise Headquarters.

CAD:Pharmer Engineering has assembled a superior team of talented and professional Engineers and CAD designers in its Design Department. With a variety of unique abilities our team is qualified to provide solutions to the most challenging design problems. Pharmer Engineering is dedicated to providing its design team with the most up-to-date tools. From the production of traditional 2D drawings to the creation of 3D models and videos, our design team uses this state-of-the-art computer software to develop superior design solutions for a wide variety of customer needs.

Pharmer Engineering believes that producing workable, intelligent drawings not only saves time, but also saves the project costly mistakes. As opposed to only drawing in 2D, 3D allows the designer to detect interferences or other problems before a project starts construction. When designing in 3D, one can view the model from any angle and from any position. When it comes time to produce actual construction drawings, rather than creating section and plan views by hand, one at a time, we simply pick the desired views of the 3D model and use the software's tools to produce drawings automatically saving the client time and money. Since the model is very accurate and interference-free, the designer has greater confidence that the drawings will be accurate. Throughout the construction of the project, when design characteristics change, rather than updating many different plans and sections, the designer only has to update the model once. In turn, every drawing that references the model will be automatically updated.

Not only do we believe this is a great way to design a project, the 3D models also are very helpful when rendered and presented to regulatory agencies, associations, or city councils. It allows the public to see the project fully formed, before a project is under construction.

BioWin:Pharmer Engineering utilizes BioWin, a wastewater treatment process simulator with integrated biological and physical/chemical process models. The model allows Pharmer Engineering to simulate and compare the performance of multiple treatment plant designs under varying chemical loadings, environmental conditions, and operating strategies. Pharmer has cultivated expertise in using BioWin to forecast the performance of biological wastewater treatment systems we design. This will verify the reliability of design assumptions prior to procurement and construction of new treatment systems. Using BioWin, Pharmer can also simulate current plant conditions and assess future plant capacity, taking into account any equipment additions or operational changes needed to optimize treatment levels while minimizing incremental cost. BioWin’s simulation capabilities include conventional activated sludge, anaerobic digestion, membrane bioreactors, moving bed biofilm reactors, sequencing batch reactors, side stream processes, trickling filters, dewatering, mixing, chemical addition, degritting, thermal hydrolysis, and primary and secondary settling.

Pharmer engineering also leverages two alternative wastewater process models developed in-house. These steady-state models are quicker to use, and save our clients money on smaller jobs which do not require the detailed analysis that BioWin offers. Additionally, these two models compare with BioWin results to provide three-way confirmation of the accuracy and reliability of design assumptions. This gives clients assurance that Pharmer understands the fundamentals of every design, that Pharmer will be able to hold equipment vendors accountable, and that every project will perform effectively upon startup.
